The Nashville School Swim Club (NSSC) operates as a non-profit umbrella organization supporting school swimming in Nashville. The NSSC fosters the growth of communities in Nashville by providing resources and support for new and existing swim teams.
Who we are The Nashville School Swim Club was founded in 2023 by April Parker and Skyler Findley. April and Skyler began by coaching the Hume Fogg Swim Team and recognizing a need for the promotion of swimming as a sport in the MNPS community. At the time only Hume Fogg and Martin Luther King High School had swim teams in the MNPS high school system. Teams intermittently existed in MNPS middle schools but with no real consistency or coaching. By pooling resources and community partners, the NSSC umbrella has grown to include 5 high schools and 5 middle schools. NSSC provides coaching, program support/administration, and financial resources to teams in order to grow the sport in the local public high schools and middle schools. Our successes include many regional qualifiers, state qualifiers, regional championship team placements and state championship team placements. NSSC swimmers have gone on to swim for college programs, masters programs, and we have Olympic trials qualifiers as alumni. More importantly, we have fostered the love of swimming in hundreds of young athletes.
Our Success In 2025 we served 126 athletes in the following schools: Hume Fogg, Hillsboro, Valor High School, Nashville School of the Arts, Stratford High School, Meigs Middle School, JT Moore Middle School, West End Middle School, Isaac Litton Middle School, and Valor Middle School. We staffed our teams with 5 coaches, 4 lifeguards, and several support volunteers. We hosted 5 high school swim meets and 3 middle school swim meets and ran 123 practices at 5 different pools over the course of 5 months. We sent 72 athletes to the Regional Championship Meets and 6 athletes to the State Championship Meet. Hume Fogg Girl’s Team placed 1st in the State Small School Division and in the Top 10 in the Region at the Championship Meets. Hume Fogg Men, Women, and Combined Team placed first in our Middle Tennessee division for regular season competition. We had many Personal Best Times and several school records were broken. April was nominated for Coach of the Year by both MTHSSA and TISCA.
Our future Our goal is to add more athletes and more schools to the NSSC umbrella. We want to grow the sport in the community and garner recognition for these amazing young athletes. We face many challenges in reaching our goal. Pool space in Nashville is limited and expensive. Each year we spend hours trying to schedule space for practices and meets. NSSC must often provide our own lifeguards at facilities and always must provide equipment like pace clocks, kickboards, and timing devices. MNPS does not recognize swimming as a Varsity sport and provides no financial support to our teams. We rely on community partners for donations
Why your support matters NSSC is a non-profit that provides coaching and membership to athletes regardless of income and ability to pay fees. The cost of administering the program includes lane/pool rental, insurance, coaching, meet and organization fees, as well as team equipment and enrichment. Each season we sponsor multiple athletes who cannot afford our team registration fees. With help from our community partners we have been able to purchase new equipment like a pace clock, kickboards, pull buoys, and paddles. Each year we staff our teams with experienced and dedicated coaches. Community partners like Mitchell’s Deli, Seven Hills Swim Club, Metro Parks, the YMCA, and Ensworth Aquatics help us run a quality program and reach more athletes in the community.
